Week 5 Health Check: Set the Early Pivots, Protect the Late Ones

Confirmed outs need a bench move now. Keep legal cover for questionable players before the earlier option locks.

Week 5 Health Check board: Barkley and Jackson out, Chase and Kamara questionable

An active designation answers whether a player may dress; it does not promise a full workload. Your best pivot is one you can still legally start when the information arrives. Do not let a healthy early alternative lock on your bench while waiting for an uncertain late player.

The ordered Week 5 pivot board

Remaining decisions run from Sunday, October 11, through Monday, October 12; all kickoff times below are Central.

Decision lockFull player name / official statusAction · half PPR
Sunday 8:30 AM CT · PHI–JAXSaquon Barkley; DeVonta Smith · OUTSIT both. Will Shipley is a conditional ADD/START after London inactives; Dameon Pierce may contribute and Carson Steele joined the active roster. Decide before this early lock.
Sunday noon CT · NYJ–CLEBreece Hall · OUTSIT Hall. Braelon Allen is the leading replacement candidate, with Isaiah Davis also in the backfield. START a verified healthy RB/FLEX option; do not assign Allen every vacated touch.
Sunday noon CT · CIN–MIAJa’Marr Chase; Tee Higgins · QUESTIONABLEHOLD a separate legal WR pivot for each exposed slot. If inactive, SIT and START the reserved option. If active, check clearance and workload guidance; full Friday practice alone is not protocol clearance for Chase.
Sunday noon CT · MIN–NOJustin Jefferson; Jordan Addison; Alvin Kamara · QUESTIONABLEHOLD a legal WR/RB alternative for each needed slot. If inactive, SIT and use it. If active but meaningfully limited, favor a comparable healthy start; one absence does not assign another player a full new role.
Sunday noon CT · CHI–GBKyle Monangai · OUT; Caleb Williams · QUESTIONABLESIT Monangai and Williams. Chicago has named Tyson Bagent the Week 5 starter regardless of Williams' active designation. D’Andre Swift has no game designation; no exact role upgrade is certified.
Sunday 3:05 PM CT · DEN–LACQuentin Johnston · OUT; Ladd McConkey · QUESTIONABLESIT Johnston. HOLD an eligible healthy WR for McConkey; if inactive, START that option. Active does not establish full routes after a week without practice.
Sunday 3:25 PM CT · SF–SEAZach Charbonnet · OUT (PUP)SIT Charbonnet, who has not played this season. Emanuel Wilson is a conditional RB/FLEX option based on his own role, not newly inherited Charbonnet touches. Check questionable George Holani.
Sunday 7:20 PM CT · BAL–ATLLamar Jackson · OUT; Zay Flowers · QUESTIONABLESIT Jackson; Tyler Huntley starts and is deep/Superflex cover only if your best legal option. HOLD a compatible late WR for Flowers or START a healthy earlier WR before that player locks.
Monday 7:15 PM CT · BUF–LARMonday player statuses · not yet verifiedMONITOR completed team reports and Monday inactives. Reserve an eligible Bills–Rams alternative before an earlier healthy option locks; this is Week 5's final game.

These are conditional editorial actions, not new ACE rank movements. A teammate’s absence creates an opportunity question; it does not assign every vacated carry, route, target or goal-line touch to one backup.

02

London first: Barkley is out, Shipley may lead

Saquon Barkley and DeVonta Smith are OUT on Philadelphia’s Friday final report. The Eagles’ Saturday preview says Will Shipley likely starts with a heavier backfield role, Dameon Pierce could contribute, and Carson Steele was signed to the active roster. The preview’s URL says “week-6” but its body describes this Week 5 London game. SIT Barkley and Smith. ADD Shipley only if available and useful to your roster; START him only as a conditional RB/FLEX choice after the active group and your alternatives are weighed. This is not a promise of Barkley’s usual role or production. Their Sunday 8:30 AM CT game is the first remaining lineup lock.

03

Noon: out backs and receiver contingencies

Breece Hall is OUT with a quad issue on the Jets’ final report; Kyle Monangai is OUT with a toe injury on Chicago’s report. SIT both. Braelon Allen is New York’s leading replacement candidate, with Isaiah Davis also in the backfield; an Allen add/start remains conditional on your roster and the Jets’ active group. D’Andre Swift practiced fully without a game designation. Monangai’s absence may improve Swift’s opportunity, but no exact workload share or new rank passed model review.

Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins both practiced fully Friday but remain QUESTIONABLE on the Bengals’ final report. Chase’s practice line alone is not confirmation of concussion-protocol clearance. HOLD a separate healthy WR alternative for each slot at risk. If one is inactive, SIT him and START that reserved option. If active, weigh credible workload guidance against a comparable healthy player. Do not automatically assign both players’ targets to a depth-chart replacement.

Justin Jefferson (ankle) and Jordan Addison (hamstring) are QUESTIONABLE on Minnesota’s final report. Alvin Kamara (back) is QUESTIONABLE on New Orleans’ final report; Chris Olave practiced fully and has no game designation. Protect a legal WR/RB alternative for each threatened slot. Kendre Miller is a conditional Kamara contingency, not a certified receiving or goal-line replacement. Olave is an ordinary lineup choice, not an injury-driven automatic upgrade.

Caleb Williams is QUESTIONABLE after a limited Friday practice, but the Bears said Tyson Bagent will start at Green Bay. SIT Williams for Week 5 whether he is active or inactive. Tyson Bagent is conditional deep/Superflex cover only if he is your best legal QB option; his starting status alone is not a projection upgrade. These Bengals, Jets, Vikings, Saints and Bears decisions belong to the Sunday noon CT window; confirm each official inactive list before lock.

04

Late games: keep the escape hatch open

Quentin Johnston is OUT and Ladd McConkey is QUESTIONABLE after no practice all week on the Chargers’ final report. SIT Johnston. For McConkey, HOLD an eligible healthy receiver before the Sunday 3:05 PM CT lock. If inactive, START that replacement; if active, do not treat eligibility as proof of full routes. Neither McConkey nor another teammate automatically inherits Johnston’s targets.

Zach Charbonnet remains on PUP and is OUT on Seattle’s final report; he has not played this season, so his Week 5 absence creates no newly vacated workload. Emanuel Wilson is a conditional RB/FLEX option based on his own role, not a Charbonnet inheritance. George Holani is questionable and the Seahawks’ active backs and situational roles remain the Sunday 3:25 PM CT checkpoint. SIT Charbonnet; START Wilson only if his actual available role and your alternatives support it.

Lamar Jackson is OUT, and Baltimore named Tyler Huntley its starter. SIT Jackson. In a one-QB league, an appropriate established healthy earlier starter is safer if waiting would leave no legal move; Huntley is conditional deep/Superflex cover, not Jackson-equivalent. Zay Flowers (foot) is QUESTIONABLE after a week without a full practice on the Ravens’ report. HOLD a Sunday-night-compatible WR if possible. If none is credible, START your viable healthy earlier WR before that player locks; if Flowers is inactive, SIT him. An active but limited Flowers still needs a workload comparison with Huntley starting. Baltimore–Atlanta begins Sunday 7:20 PM CT.

05

Monday is a contingency, not a clearance

Buffalo–Los Angeles Rams is scheduled for Monday 7:15 PM CT, the final Week 5 game. The teams’ Bills and Rams injury tables did not establish final Saturday game designations at this review’s cutoff. MONITOR their completed reports and Monday inactives. Reserve an eligible Bills–Rams substitute before an earlier healthy alternative locks; a blank Saturday field is not clearance. Tampa Bay–Dallas already finished Thursday, so Baker Mayfield and Jalon Daniels are next-week monitors, not Week 5 start pivots.

Model boundary: The owner-published October 8 Week 5 order is a dated provisional comparison, not a new Saturday injury-adjusted board. Its inherited interim points still include positive ACTIVE rows for ruled-out players, and no exact Saturday affected-team workbook/export passed opportunity and scoring review. Therefore this article makes no new point, rank, target-share, workload-percentage or FAAB claim. The assistant still owes affected scenario reconciliation before any numerical replacement or FantasyPros handoff.
