Roster Triage Week 6: Four Repairs With a Real Roster Spot

Four legal roster repairs, not four promises that the next man inherits every snap. Montgomery is out; Hall, Smith and Jackson still need final checks.

Roster Triage Week 6 full decision scorecard

Article available for owner manual review. Dedicated full-height website artwork is now published. Social distribution is not approved or posted. The current status correction in the article supersedes its dated Wednesday scenario arithmetic.

Thursday, October 15, 2026; original analysis cutoff 10:47 AM CT, with a 7:50 PM CT official-report correction. Illustrative 12-team, half-PPR redraft rosters, 1QB unless noted. These are hypothetical legal examples, not observed reader teams or completed deals. Any pickup requires actual local availability and league eligibility. Wednesday practice reports do not establish Sunday inactives. Seattle–Denver has begun and its players are locked; Houston–Jacksonville in London begins Sunday at 8:30 AM CT. The Week 6 initial selected-case board estimates specifically labeled roles as of Wednesday, not new injury-out outcomes. The public ROS board is an older interim edition; this article claims no new ROS valuation or rank movement. A reserved bench slot before Sunday's early lock is cheaper than a Sunday zero.

Thursday evening status correction: The Texans ruled David Montgomery OUT and confirmed he did not travel to London. Bench him for Week 6; Woody Marks is an availability-and-role-dependent alternative, not an automatic transfer of every carry or target. The Jets listed Breece Hall DNP again Thursday, without a final game designation. The Eagles listed DeVonta Smith LIMITED Thursday, not cleared for an ordinary Sunday workload. Baltimore reported Lamar Jackson did not practice Thursday; Tyler Huntley remains the conditional starter if Jackson cannot play. The morning scenario arithmetic below stays a dated selected-case comparison, not a new Thursday projection. Friday reports and Sunday inactives can still change Hall, Smith and Jackson decisions.

Position and problem Immediate action Reversal checkpoint
RB: David Montgomery OUT for early London game SIT Montgomery; use covered Pollard–Allen lineup, or check Woody Marks only on your actual wire and after role comparison. Sunday inactives and Houston RB role before 8:30 AM CT.
RB: Breece Hall's quad HOLD; retain Braelon Allen if already rostered; reserve a healthy RB. Jets final report and Sunday inactives.
WR: DeVonta Smith's hamstring/toe HOLD; compare a free Germie Bernard with Keenan Allen for one needed replacement. Eagles final report and the substitute's own lock.
QB: Lamar Jackson's ankle HOLD; reserve a confirmed healthy 1QB starter; Tyler Huntley only if named starter in superflex. Baltimore final report and starter announcement.

David Montgomery: the London alarm is earlier

Houston listed David Montgomery DNP with a groin injury Wednesday. The earlier Week 6 selected-case composition allocated the two featured Houston backs 18 combined carries (Montgomery 11.2, Woody Marks 6.8) and 23.5 combined RB routes, in a labeled active-role composition; it is not a Montgomery-out allocation or a pre-report injury baseline. Marks had 15 carries and four catches in the actual Week 5 game. That single game does not prove he inherits Montgomery's carries, routes, passing work or goal-line role if Montgomery sits. The Houston active-case has 32.5 QB pass attempts and 29.5 allocated named-player targets, not a whole-team target total; an out-case must reserve work for the other receivers and backs, and current Wednesday evidence cannot yield a precise new point forecast. Marks's out-case workload and net points remain unknown. He was 81% rostered on Sleeper at the 10:40 AM CT check, so this is an individual wire check, never a broadly available add. Texans report · London kickoff.

Illustrative legal transaction and lineup effect. A full roster starts Montgomery at RB2 and Tony Pollard at FLEX, benches Keenan Allen, and carries both Kansas City Chiefs D/ST and Minnesota Vikings D/ST. Pollard's Wednesday DNP was labeled non-injury rest; verify his final availability and role. If Montgomery is inactive, move Pollard to RB2 and start Allen at FLEX if both are cleared for useful work. Before: Montgomery RB2 + Pollard FLEX. After: Pollard RB2 + Allen FLEX. In the unchanged Wednesday selected cases, Allen's 5.12 conditional points fill the otherwise vacant starting slot; this is not a gain over a healthy Montgomery or a new out-case forecast. If Marks is actually free, the manager can add him by dropping the redundant Minnesota D/ST while retaining Kansas City as a legal defense. Start Marks over the Pollard–Allen configuration only if a verified Houston role makes that better; otherwise hold him as contingency. If Marks is unavailable, the named Pollard–Allen lineup requires no panic move. If Montgomery is active for ordinary work, compare him with Pollard and Allen rather than auto-starting or auto-benching Marks; a limited role calls for a fresh comparison. Dare Ogunbowale is a deep role monitor, not an established replacement. This is Week 6 cover; the window ends or changes with Montgomery's recovery. Confidence is high on the early lock and need for cover, low on Marks's unallocated volume.

Trade branch: The October 13 Dave Richard CBS chart assigns ordinal half-PPR proxies of Marks 11, Montgomery 6, Pollard 7. It does not show an accepted offer. Because the illustrative roster already has Pollard and Allen, a new trade for an RB bridge has no established starting gain; recommend no trade before Sunday's lock. A later multiweek absence could justify revisiting a healthy RB bridge, but no maximum price or longer-term target is supportable from the current absence evidence. Do not sell Montgomery at a Wednesday-DNP discount just to fund a one-week replacement. Single-expert trade chart.

Breece Hall: an estimated DNP is a branch, not a takeover

The Jets held a walkthrough, so Breece Hall's Wednesday DNP for a quad injury was estimated participation. The initial selected-case active composition allocates a 20-carry Jets RB budget: Hall 14.3, Braelon Allen 5.4 and Isaiah Davis 0.3. It also has 21.5 allocated named-player targets against a 22-target reference and 22.5 quarterback attempts, with Hall and Allen at 2.0 targets each. A Hall-out branch must reallocate carries and routes among Allen, Davis and any verified active back, without assigning Hall's 14.3 carries to Allen automatically. Allen's Wednesday active-Hall 5.43-point case is not an out-Hall forecast. Jets estimated Wednesday report.

Illustrative legal transaction and lineup effect. A full roster starts Hall at RB2, benches Allen and Tony Pollard, and already has a healthy FLEX. Hold all three today. Pollard's Wednesday DNP was non-injury rest, but his final status and role still require checking. If Hall is inactive and Pollard is cleared for his sampled work, start Pollard at RB2 and bench Hall. Start Allen instead only if a verified Jets Hall-out role supports him over Pollard. Pollard and the Jets both kick off Sunday at noon CT; make the choice before that shared lock. Do not use a Thursday-locked Denver player as a Sunday fallback. Before: Hall RB2. After: Pollard or Allen RB2, never both in the same slot. Pollard's unchanged selected case is 11.59 conditional points in an otherwise vacant start, not a gain over a healthy Hall or a new Hall-out forecast. If Hall is active for ordinary work, compare him with Pollard; if he is active but limited, use the same comparison. For a different illustrative roster without Allen and without another healthy reserve RB, add Allen only if actually free by dropping Dohnte Meyers only if Meyers is a replaceable bench stash in that league; keep Hall. If Allen is gone, Pollard is the named fallback in the first roster and a different confirmed healthy RB is needed in the second. The window is this week's uncertainty, not an invented absence duration. Confidence is high in preparing a legal cover, low in Allen's Hall-out workload before role reconciliation.

Trade branch: On the illustrated roster Pollard already covers RB2, so no trade now. On a different full 1QB roster with Hall at RB2, no playable reserve RB, DK Metcalf on the bench behind its starting receivers, and no suitable local RB pickup, a conditional one-for-one proposal of Metcalf for Pollard could be a bridge only if Hall is ruled out and Pollard is cleared. CBS's October 13 single-expert half-PPR proxies put Metcalf at 8 and Pollard at 7, a bounded price band rather than a guarantee. The ceiling for this hypothetical is Metcalf alone; no extra pick or player. Proceed only if your league can process the trade and make Pollard lineup-eligible before Sunday’s noon CT lock; otherwise use the legal bench or wire fallback. A partner who needs WR depth and can spare Pollard might consider it. The manager would bench Hall, start Pollard at RB2, remove bench-only Metcalf, and retain a legal roster count; Pollard's 11.59 selected-case points fill a vacant start if his role holds. The future WR/bye depth cost is real. If the partner has no WR need, Pollard is not cleared, Metcalf is needed to start, or Hall's absence is not confirmed, walk away. No stronger long-term RB purchase or Hall sale is justified by one estimated DNP. CBS also lists Hall at 23 and Allen at 7; these are not accepted offers. Single-expert trade chart.

DeVonta Smith: replace one WR start, preserve the longer-term player

Philadelphia listed DeVonta Smith DNP Wednesday with hamstring/toe concerns, without a final game designation. The selected-case active composition previously listed Smith 34.3 routes/7.5 targets/10.72 conditional points; Pittsburgh's Germie Bernard 33.1 routes/8.5 targets/12.38 points assumes its current receiving absences, with DK Metcalf still a major target earner at 33.1 routes/7.8 targets. Those are Wednesday role scenarios, not a Thursday injury rerank or an additional free target boost for Bernard. Keenan Allen's Indianapolis Wednesday absence was reported as veteran rest in the current Aftermath. His selected case is a smaller 14-route/3.5-target role, so he is a need-specific fallback, not automatically better than an active but limited Smith. Eagles report · Week 6 Waiver Aftermath.

Illustrative legal transaction and lineup effect. A full roster starts Smith at WR2, benches Allen and a replaceable Dohnte Meyers stash, and confirms Bernard is free. Add Bernard and drop Meyers, preserving a legal lineup. If Smith is out and Bernard's current role survives Pittsburgh's final report, start Bernard at WR2 and bench Smith and Allen. Before: Smith WR2. After: Bernard WR2. Bernard's 12.38 and Allen's 5.12 selected cases differ by 7.26 rounded points as alternative replacements; this is not a new Smith-out projection or a gain over healthy Smith. If Bernard is gone or loses the expected role, start Allen only after confirming Allen's own status and comparing his lower sampled opportunity with the other healthy WR options. If Smith is active for ordinary work, compare his expected role with the healthy Bernard/Allen alternative before choosing; clearance alone does not make him the better start. If limited, use the same role comparison rather than auto-bench or auto-start. This is a Week 6 injury cover. Bernard's window closes or changes when Pittsburgh's missing receivers return. Confidence is high in needing a healthy contingency, medium-low in either alternative's advantage over limited Smith.

Trade branch: CBS lists Smith at 19.5 and Metcalf at 8 in its October 13 half-PPR proxy. An unsupported Metcalf-plus-filler proposal would not establish a fair package or improve the shown roster beyond the Bernard/Allen route. With no confirmed multiweek Smith absence, hold and do not trade Smith now. A later prolonged absence would trigger a fresh healthy-WR target, partner-need and starting-lineup calculation; no current maximum cost is established.

Lamar Jackson: reserve the start before the designation

Lamar Jackson had not resumed practice by Wednesday. Baltimore repeated an outside report of a “realistic chance” to play and identified Tyler Huntley as its next starter if Jackson cannot go. That is not an official Sunday start or proof Jackson's usual rushing workload will return. The reviewed Week 6 selected-case workbook has a separate Huntley-sole-starter scenario (30.5 passing attempts, six QB carries, 15.86 conditional points). It cannot be blended with an active Jackson case or used as a play probability. Ravens report.

Illustrative legal transaction and lineup effect. A full 1QB roster starts Jackson, has no bench QB, carries Chiefs and Vikings D/ST, and confirms Aaron Rodgers is free. Add Rodgers and drop the redundant Vikings D/ST; retain Chiefs as the legal starter defense. If Jackson is out, start confirmed healthy Rodgers and bench Jackson. Before: Jackson QB. After: Rodgers QB. Rodgers's unchanged selected case supplies 14.27 conditional points to an otherwise vacant QB start; it is not a gain over healthy Jackson. The separate Huntley-sole-starter case is 15.86 conditional points, 1.59 above Rodgers if both roles hold, and does not make Huntley an automatic choice. If Rodgers is unavailable, Jameis Winston is only a conditional fallback after his own starter status and local availability are verified; otherwise choose another confirmed starting QB. If Jackson is active with ordinary mobility, start him and release the reserve later if appropriate; if mobility is constrained, compare Rodgers's current role. In superflex/two-QB, reserve Huntley if actually available and a legal bench spot permits while Jackson remains uncertain, but start Huntley only after Baltimore names him starter. His rental ends when Jackson's start and mobility are established. Confidence is high in avoiding a zero, lower in either QB's unverified Sunday workload.

Trade branch: CBS values Jackson at 13 in 1QB and 30 in two-QB; Jared Goff is 8 in 1QB, but Goff is not a Week 6 active-game bridge in the reviewed weekly slate. Do not mix formats, sell Jackson at a Wednesday uncertainty discount, or buy a QB without a starting gain when Rodgers can fill the illustrated slot: no panic trade now. A confirmed prolonged absence or lack of legal wire options would require a new price and lineup decision, not an invented maximum today.

David Montgomery OUT for early London game Tony Pollard at RB2 plus Keenan Allen at FLEX if both cleared; Woody Marks only if free and role-supported No trade on illustrated covered roster; no approved bridge ceiling SIT Montgomery Week 6; set replacement by Sunday 8:30 AM CT; one-week insurance High on out-status, low on Marks out-case; Houston role and other starters' final statuses change replacement choice
Breece Hall out or limited after estimated DNP Cleared Pollard at RB2; Braelon Allen only if verified expanded role; no reserve means local RB search Conditional DK Metcalf for Pollard one-for-one, ceiling Metcalf alone, only on different bench-WR/no-RB roster and if processed before Sunday noon CT lock HOLD Hall, reserve healthy RB before Sunday noon CT; bridge expires on Hall's return/role clarity High on cover need, low on Allen out-case; final Jets/Titans reports and partner need change choice
